The town of Rishikesh is separated by the river Ganges an is linked by the two amazing bridges, the Ram Jhula and Lakshman Jhula. The center of town is on the western side and is home to the train and bus stations, as well as various restaurants and accommodations.

Rishikesh travel

There are different ways to get to and from Rishikesh depending on your schedule and budget including by plane, train, bus and car.

  1. Plane: the fastest way to travel, only 55 minutes to Delhi with up to 6 flights per day, but also the most expensive with flights starting at Rs 3000.  The Dehradun Jolly Grant Airport is located only 20 kilometers from Rishikesh and currently only flies to and from New Delhi
  2. Train: there is a direct but slow connection from Haridwar.  To get to Haridwar there are many numerous trains to Delhi including Shatabadi Express, Jan Shatabdi, AC Special Express, Mussorie Express, all taking about an hour  of journey time.
  3. Bus: the cheaper and most hassle free way to get to Rishikesh is by bus, which usually takes about the 6 hours from Delhi and cost between about Rs 200 and 500
  4. Car: finally another option is by car with prices starting at around 100$

Get around

As the town is quite small, and the Swargashram area is pedestrian only, the best way to get around is by foot.  For longer distances, the Auto-rickshaws (vikrams) can he handy with about Rs10 from the train stations to any of the 2 bridges, or about  Rs 15 per kilometre.
